I've gone a little nuts

I usually have a 3 projects at a time only rule. I seem to have thrown this out the window! The problem now is that I have so many projects floating around that I am having a hard time finishing one and moving onto the other. I seem to just be running around in circles throwing paint and sandpaper and everything else all over the place. So I am trying to change my ways and finish some projects. Luckily my husband sees just how unfocused I am and has started helping me hang the light fixtures. Anyway I have been thrift shopping the whole time and here is an idea of some of the projects I have going on right now.

If you can't tell this is a huge ottoman. Its the Target variety. I went to a yard sale on the way home and this ottoman was on this guys grass. I stopped and it had one little inch rip in it. It didn't look too bad so I asked how much he wanted. $20 so I asked if he would take $15 (I don't usually haggle but I knew I would have to recover this) he said yes and I threw it in the truck). The inch rip turned into this after 4 days!! (once again the little munchkins attacked)
So I am in the process of finding a material to cover it with.

Then I found this:
Its a solid cedar chest and even has an insurance policy pasted on the inside for moth control! It was only $10 without haggling! I have been looking for toy chests so it was perfect. The only problem is it looks like someone went modgepodge crazy with gardening pictures. I plan on stripping this sanding it and then seeing the shape of the wood.

Then I found this:
Its a LANE table for $8.99 Savers. I wanted it for our TV in the loft for the kids. It is currently being sanded and will be stained.

Then I found these:
I am switching out all the lighting in the house and I want it in brushed nickel silver or chrome. The one on the left is a Kitchler for $7.99 and the right is I don't know what but it was $15.

I am also sanding and staining a sofa table, upholstering a low coffee table I found to make it a bench, rearrangeing my seascape wall to fit with the hutch and making some faux canvas art! I'll let you know how it all goes :) Focus Focus Focus!

Nice Legs

I finished one of my Craigslist tables the one with the nice legs.

You can see the details here.

I cleaned it. I didn't sand it at all. I primed it with Zinsser Oil Based Primer. Sometimes I use kilz oil based primer on these projects and so far the difference is that Kilz is thicker and takes a little longer to dry so you can get a smoother thin coat with Zinsser.

Here it is freshly primed

I used this to put it on.

Lowes sells 2 inch foam rollers so I used this to get all the hard to reach areas. (beware that walmart and Lowes sell different brands of these rollers they don't fit with each other so stick to one or the other) If you are going to use a brush get natural bristles for oil based because it helps keeps the appearance of brush strokes to a minimum.

I put two coats on the top of the table and on the outside of the legs because the kids will probably be terrorizing this little table in the future. I let it sit in the garage for a day and then I applied two coats of this:

I am a major rustoleum fan. I have tried many spray paints and for a little table Rustoleum has the best coverage and in my opinion the hardest finish. I let it dry for 4 hours and then I brought it inside and here it is!!

We are still figuring out the middle table with the tv :(

I love these tables now. I am definitely drawn to cabriole legs. This was a quick and easy project (after I found the table)

Craigslist is my friend

Thats right I get lots of things from craigslist. Just like all other thrifty sources its hit and miss. Well it was a hit for me the other day. Look what I found

I realize this is kind of ugly but many things are when you first look at them. I saw this and I WANTED IT! AND it was only $5!! You may wonder why I would want this. Well look at this:forgive the picture, its christmas morning but the only picture I could find

I realize this may look strange three tables in a row but we are working on that. Its kind of an awkward room what with the fireplace in the corner and its on the large side. Anyway see the red table to the right? Well I have been looking for a matching table to go to the left (we just put the gray one in there because it needed some balance) Hopefully now you can understand my excitement about the craigslist find. Its extremely similar. So I went and picked up the table! Now it needs some oil based primer and red spray paint. I will show you when its done.

Then I went on craigslist on Friday morning and found this:

Its a long skinny table with no finish on it! So perfect for paint or stain. I got it for $20. Can't wait to get started on these peices. I can't figure out if this will be a behind the sofa table or next to the wall under a frame table. We shall see.
